At the heart of the garden is a sparkling pool, surrounded by ample sunbathing terraces furnished with sun beds and umbrellas. An outhouse close to the pool has laundry facilities and a bathroom with toilet and shower.
Two large terraces provide plenty of space for soaking up the sun or retreating into the shade during the hottest part of the day. One, furnished with a sofa and armchairs, overlooks the pool and lawns. The other, at the rear of the villa, provides shade throughout the day, making it the perfect spot for breakfast and al fresco lunches. The delightful outdoor dining space has a table for 6, a barbecue and a kitchen area with a sink and worktop. There are also 2 stress-busting hammocks to sink into for an indulgent afternoon snooze!
Interiors are decorated in neutral shades of white, oatmeal and cream, with the odd splash of colour in the way of a dazzling orange or red armchair. In spite of a generally minimalist appearance, the villa has been considerately designed, with plenty of storage space. On the ground floor, French windows from the dining terrace fill the large open plan living room with light. An attractive living space has a sofa, large screen TV and shelving. To the side of this, a dining table for 6 sits in front of a wide arch through to the modern kitchen where you’ll find a full range of appliances and ample storage space.
The villa has 3 bedrooms, including 2 doubles on the ground floor (1 convertible to a twin), and a bathroom with shower. On the first floor, the elegant master bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with shower, and a stunning panoramic terrace with sea views.

The area
Situated less than 400m from the water’s edge, Mareperla is brilliantly located for a family beach holiday. The nearest beach is at Donnalucata, a natural choice for families with young children thanks to the soft golden sand and gentle shallow waters. However, when you feel like a change of scene, there’s a fantastic choice of excellent beaches nearby, including those at Marina di Ragusa, Sampieri and Punta Secca, the latter best known for the house used in the Montalbano TV series. For a slightly more rugged experience, head to the River Irminio nature reserve or further afield to the Vendicari nature reserve.
Pop down to Donnalucata, just a short walk from the villa, for everyday provisions or to eat in the town’s restaurants and bars, or to nearby Scicli for more cafes, bars, restaurants and shops and for a glimpse of further Montalbano highlights. From Scicli, it’s an easy drive to the stunning towns of Modica and Ragusa. The town of Noto, with its splendid honey-coloured buildings, and the fascinating city of Syracuse with its ancient Greek theatre, are a little further away, at around a one-hour drive from the villa.
For a completely different experience, head to Ispica where you can take a pleasant stroll along the 13km long Cave d’Ispica, a leafy gorge and Neolithic burial site which was transformed into cave dwellings in the Middle Ages.
