Villa La Forma dell'Acqua This property has been verified by our local team in Sicily Villas in Sicily in Scicli

Description

Situated in the heart of Donnalucata near Scicli and just 100m from the beach, Villa La Forma dell’Acqua merges modern day luxury with grand traditional Sicilian style. With space for up to 14 people, this is a superb villa for a big gathering of family or friends. The sandy beaches of south east Sicily are on your doorstep and the baroque towns of Scicli, Modica and Ragusa close by.

The villa looks out over extensive tree-filled parkland, awash with Mediterranean plants, lavender and citrus trees and with plenty of areas for outside dining, either alongside the pool or in the dappled shade of large trees. The magnificent pool with hydromassage at the heart of the garden, the barbecue corner and a well-equipped children’s play area make this a very special garden for families with children of all ages.

The interior of the villa is evocative of a bygone age, dotted with antique furniture, paintings and ceramics, but crucially, the two kitchens and bathrooms are contemporary and the villa is extremely well maintained. The main part of the villa is on three levels, housing three double bedrooms, each with a bathroom, and a fourth twin bedroom. There are two living rooms and a large well-equipped kitchen with dining area.

In the other part of the villa, there are two more double bedrooms, each with a bathroom, together with another kitchen. The villa sleeps 12 people comfortably but there is the option of adding two more beds if required.

The area

The town of Donnalucata provides everything you will need for day-to-day living, with a good selection of restaurants, local shops, supermarkets and a bank. You can even buy the catch of the day directly from the fishermen who set up shop in the little port!

The villa is just a few minutes’ walk from the seafront which is accessible via a garden path that weaves through the citrus grove. Donnalucata beach is sandy, with clear seas that are ideal for families thanks to the gently shelving water, and generally quieter and less commercialised than the beach at nearby Marina Ragusa. Other local beaches include Punta Secca, best known for the house used in the TV series of Montalbano, and, to the east, Sampieri and Pozzallo.

The nearby town of Scicli is utterly charming, and a must for Montalbano fans who want to see the fictional police station – in fact, the town hall. The San Calogero restaurant featured in the TV series is not in Scicli but in nearby Ragusa Ibla. Compared to Ragusa and Modica, Scicli feels slightly more off-the-beaten track but has several magnificent churches and a fascinating history.

If you are interested in baroque art and architecture, neighbouring Ragusa Ibla and Modica offer some unforgettable sights. Slightly further afield, Noto and Palazzolo Acreide are also UNESCO World Heritage sites. At Ispica, you can take a pleasant stroll along the 13km-long Le Cave d’Ispica, a leafy gorge and Neolithic burial site which was transformed into cave dwellings in the Middle Ages.

The house was everything we expected and more! From booking to arrival, the owners of the house (and their assistant) were very accomodating and helpful. During our stay, they were also available if we had any questions. We used the inhouse chef offer, which indeed was a lovely experience!! We were 13 people staying at the house (young adults only), and it was indeed spacious enough to house all of us. The outdoor space is just wonderful and HUGE, with many plants and fruits and lovely sitting areas. Donnalucata itself was a very lovely town, with a good selection of fine restaurants, grocery stores and bakeries/gelaterias. The two beaches where less crowded than other beaches around, and there was a lot less tourists here than other places we visited. We had cars (the house has parking for several cars behind a locked gate), and was able to drive around for daytrips. We would reccomend going to the nearby town Scicly, Noto, tour and tasting at Planeta, Siracusa, and for a slightly longer trip Taormina (scuba diving in Taormina can also be recommended). We also visited Laghetti Cavagrande for an afternoon walk and swim - absolutely worth a visit!!! Thank you for a lovely stay, we hope to visit again sometime :)

The description of the villa and information re the surroundings was very clear and very accurate and helpful. Wish Sicily is very easy to deal with. No complaints! The villa location was just perfect with everything you need and the beach only a short stroll away. The villa itself is beautiful and the grounds and pool are perfect for a relaxing holiday. Melina and Guglielmo were great hosts and Sandra was always on hand with help if needed. Donnalucata is a lovely and friendly spot and it was a fabulous holiday! We would love to visit again! Thanks everyone who made it so interesting and enjoyable.
