The area

The property is ideally situated both for trips to the sea – 10 minutes’ drive away in Sampieri, where the beach is slightly wilder and fringed with dunes, though there are many other beaches along the coast within easy driving distance which are great for surfers and windsurfers and have sun beds and umbrella for rent - and to some of Sicily’s most beautiful towns: the Baroque UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Scicli, Modica, Ragusa and Noto. Siracusa and its ancient Greek Theatre is also within easy driving distance as are the quiet beaches of the Nature Reserve at Vendicari.

The beaches in the area of Pozzallo and Marina di Ragusa have received several consecutive "Bandiere Blu", attesting to the cleanliness of the water and their general ecological excellence.

For the best views around, head for Ragusa Ibla and take in the breath-taking sight of the city from the dizzy heights of the Chiesa di S. Maria delle Scale.

Also nearby is the pretty fishing village of Marzamemi which hosts an International Film Festival in July but is worth visiting at any time for its superb seafront fish restaurants and its lively piazza. Slightly further afield is Catania and Mount Etna.

We stayed as a family group of 8 including 3 small children. The villa is well maintained and set in spacious gardens divided into 2 sections: one with a lawn and good sized swimming pool with diving board the other featuring swings and a small slide. A spacious covered veranda overlooks the lawn and pool with a purpose built BBQ to one side. There are 2 bedrooms and bathrooms at ground floor level and 4 bedrooms, 2 with en-suite and a separate bathroom. The owners, Oriana and Michele, made us very welcome and were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. One highlight being a Sicilian meal that Oriana prepared for us and we ate with her and her family. A car is essential as the villa is in a rural setting and there are no shops within walking distance. We ate very well buying meat and bread from a butcher and baker recommended by Oriana, fish from the fish market at Donnalucata and general supplies from the supermarket some 10 mins drive away. We visited the beaches at Sampieri,Cava D'Aliga and Pozzallo which were very nice and safe for children, but the garden and pool were really all we needed. Scicli with its Montalbano associations has plenty of restaurants and was only a 15 min drive away. Oriana and Michele are in the process of installing solar panels and air-conditioning and, as from mid-June, will be renting a second villa on the site with its own pool.

We spent a wonderful week in this beautiful villa. We were three families with two kids each but the house is big enough and comfortable, the gardens are spacious and the pool is very nice. It was such a nice and interesting stay. We did a lot of sightseeing around. We visited Sicily which is a little town nearby; Sampieri with a sandy beach is only about 4kms away. We visited also all highlights of the surroundings such as Syracuse, Ragusa, Noto and Modica. Oriana and Michele are really wonderful. They are welcoming, attentive to needs and helpful. On the first day they even came to the airport to show us the way to the house. On our last day they prepared for us a typical Sicilian meal: very tasty and big quantities ;). We certainly recommend Villa Antica Aia.

This was a special holiday for my family, a big birthday for one of my sons and we all met up - from Vancouver, Montreal and Brighton - six adults and three children under 9 years of age. From the moment we all arrived the holiday was wonderful. The house was even larger than we had expected, the gardens are spacious and the pool... well, the pool was the highlight of the trip. It was very hot and all just rushed home from sightseeing and jumped into the pool. It was such a lot of fun. Scicli which is a great little town, is a short 4km drive away and Sampieri with its beach is only about 4kms away also. Easy access to a supermarket too. In fact driving to Ragusa, Noto or Modica is easy. Unless like us you get lost! In which case you get to see the beautiful Sicilian countryside... Oriana and her husband are very, very attentive hosts and it is obvious how much pleasure that they get out of having guests stay in their house. On our last night she, her husband and their two children, brought, and shared with us, a typical Sicilian meal. It was such a lovely gesture. Also we wanted to have a special meal for the birthday so Oriana arranged for a chef. She sent us a choice of menus and after the choice was made we just sat back and waited for the lovely food. That was very special. I would have no hesitation in making a recommendation to spend your holiday at this lovely Villa. Thank you Oriana for all your care and attention. My son thinks that you should get a 6 for the review!

We stayed a week in this villa and it was an amazing experience. We were 9 people, 4 children between the age of 6 and 14 and we all loved the house as well as the garden with the large pool with trampoline. The house is large and is perfect for 2 or 3 families to share. It was nice and clean and looked every bit the pictures we had seen before. The owners Oriana and Michele are extremely friendly and was very attentive and helpful, and we could contact them anytime. Their genuine concern and their efforts to make our stay the best possible made this trip extra special. They even treated us with fresh vegetables and corn from their own garden. The location is quiet and you need a car to get to the nearest town which is Scicli (a beautiful old town that has been listed as one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites) or to the beach although it is not a long drive. It is not a lot of tourists in this area which makes it feel very genuine. We would absolutely recommend this vacation home and hope to return soon!

We have been going to Italy for more than 30 years but this is the perfect house where we had a truly wonderful and memorable week. Best ever Italian holiday .The house, gardens and pool are lovely. The house is pristine, comfortable, well equipped and with ample space in sunshine or shade to relax and enjoy. Perfect spot for fans of Andrea Camilieri's novels of Montalbano with Ragusa, Noto, Donnalucata (il Cosigliero restaurant) nearby and splendid beaches minutes away. Oriana, Michele and their children though are what made a week here so special and memorable. Wonderful hosts. We loved every minute and have not stopped talking about it and recommending it to friends.
