Overview

OverviewWith a pool, table tennis and play area for toddlers, Casa Franchina is perfect for a family. Best of all, you can walk to the beach and to the shops and restaurants in Acquedolci or easily access the motorway which stretches the length of Sicily’s north coast if you want to explore further.

The highlight of the villa for most families is the lovely pool, with its graduated steps at one end. A lawned area beside the pool has table tennis and plenty of space for the children to play, overlooked by a pergola-shaded terrace with a sea-facing dining area, a swing chair and additional seating. Make the most of the Sicilian weather by cooking in the outdoor tiled kitchen corner (equipped with cupboard space, a sink and hob). At the side of the villa, a second lawn has a small play area with two swings for young children.

Inside, the villa is traditionally furnished, with polished terracotta flooring and antique furniture. The ground floor comprises a spacious lounge, dining room and fully-equipped kitchen. The washing machine is in the downstairs bathroom (with shower). There are four bedrooms on the first floor which is accessible either via an internal or external staircase. On this floor, there are two doubles, one with an en suite bathroom (with jacuzzi), a twin room and a single, and one other bathroom.

Area

Situated on the north coast of Sicily, between Cefalù and Capo d’Orlando, the villa is at walking distance to the shops and restaurants at Acquedolci, and the beach (800mt).

Close by, the Nebrodi Mountains provide some of Sicily’s most spectacular landscapes, popular with hikers and foodies (salami, cheese) but also very appealing if you enjoy exploring out-of-the-way villages. San Marco d’Alunzio and San Fratello are well worth visiting – San Fratello has a pretty 11th century Norman church, with cloisters.

Other local towns include Santo Stefano di Camastra, renowned for its colourful ceramics, and Tindari, the site of a former Greek-Roman settlement and the Santuario di Tindari, built to house the much-revered Black Madonna. To the west of Acquedolci, the seaside resort of Cefalù offers an appealing mix of sandy beaches, a UNESCO world heritage site (Norman cathedral) and an attractive historic centre.

For a full day out, boat trips and snorkelling excursions depart from nearby Milazzo to the volcanic Aeolian Islands.

Casa Franchina is a beautiful property with excellent hosts. The Villa is spacious inside and out, with a beautiful pool, BBQ area, shaded dining and TV area (outside) and plenty of garden space. There is a lovely sea view. Our 4 sons loved the table tennis table. There are lots of options for lounging in the sun or shade. The property is clean and secure with plenty of towels and all facilities you could need. We did not have a car and we walked the short walk to town each day for the cafes, restaurants and shops. There are bikes for use by guests. The village is not touristy but has everything you need and is on the train line so we enjoyed a lovely day trip to Cefalu. Pippo could not have been more helpful. There was a lovely set of basic groceries when we arrived, he was on call whenever we had any questions and even organised a lift from the local supermarket with our "big shop". Overall, I highly recommend Casa Franchina for a relaxing villa holiday. Thank you Pippo and family!

Wonderful and fabulous holiday in Sicily
Peppo and his family were so kind and welcoming to us and had left some lovely provisions to welcome us. The house was very clean, cool and peaceful. Casa Franchina was even better than on the photos. The pool was fabulous and enormous and a gorgeous view of the sea, the islands and the mountains. There were lots of different places to sit in the shade or sun in the garden and lemons to use from the garden and a fabulous big covered terrace to eat and play games under. We enjoyed the table tennis and used the outside kitchen but didnt use the pizza oven area... next time!!! Everything you could want is there. Peppo was so kind helping my husband see a doctor when he needed some assistance. Great air conditioning in all of the bedrooms and we loved being in a very untouristy part of Sicily. Aquedolce is a sweet town, not fancy but with fantastic bakeries and shops, every thing you need is in the town and a couple of bars/restaurants on the beach and well located to visit Cefalu, Santa Stefano, Capo d'Orlando etc. We will miss our morning Granita and brioche at Pastercceria Riccardos and waking up to that fabulous view. We will definitely return very soon. We were a group of 7 with ages ranging from 9 to teenagers to 50s and we all loved it there. Very quick response to any enquiries and we had a fabulous holiday in Sicily at Casa Franchina. We loved every second and would definitely return.

We had the opportunity to live a real Italian life for 2 weeks in the middle of July. The host Pippo and Casa Franchina live a lifetimes memory for us. We arrived 3 hours later than expected but this was not a problem for Pippo. He also filled up the fridge and provided groceries for next morning. The villa has everything you need. Clean sheets and towels, air cond and all kitchen supplies. There are also beach towels for gUest use so you don´t have to bring you own. Villa has a very good location, on small road with sea view but close enough too feel the evening-life. The pool was fantastic and so was the garden with lemon trees. Pippo took care of cleaning it during our stay, so we do not have to think about it. It was hard to find a down sides. The only thing I was missing and forgot to tell Pippo was to have a book where the quests can share recommendations for restaurants, shops etc. There is good range of shops around with good prices as well the Wednesday open air market are worth to visit.

Casa Franchina is a great place to enjoy your Sicily vacation. Pippo and his family are great and gracious hosts who welcomed us with enthusiasm and good cheer. They provided initial items such as pasta, wine, Amaro, cookies, sauces and the like. The family generously provided advice and were at the house in an instant if there were any issues. The house is perfect -- several bedrooms, a lovely living room, a working kitchen, and the outdoor patio area was large and comfortable. Plenty of places for shade, and the pool is spectacular, super clean, and with jacuzzi jets. A very good barbecue setup, and also an outdoor, undercover, cooking area is provided. Pippo and Cristina have taken great care with the lawns and decor, and the property has fruit and olive trees. Finally, the property is on a quiet private road, protected by a gate, giving lots of security.
