Sicily Holiday Cottages and home rentals in the countryside
Enjoy rustic landscapes and a different pace of life in the heart of the Sicilian countryside. Our selection of Sicily holiday cottages cater for everyone from couples to large groups and provide the perfect opportunity to experience a slower pace and more traditional way of life. Nature-lovers will love the greenery of the island’s national parks, where forests of oak and fir trees provide welcome shade and many of our Sicily home rentals are set amongst a patchwork of green hills and fertile farmland.
Choose from a selection of restored farmhouses which have been converted to provide luxurious living, with contemporary kitchens, bathrooms and, outside, an infinity pool. Or stay in a traditional ‘baglio’, still with its full-of-character stone archways and typical courtyard, and atmospheric bedrooms housed in former stables and outhouses.
With views from your countryside villa across fields of wheat, olive groves and vineyards, you’ll also get more of an insight into Sicily’s delicious cuisine. While fish dominates menus on the coast, inland you’ll find lamb, pork and creamy ricotta, together with dishes that include beans and pulses. Feast on pistachios from Bronte and some of the best salami you’ll ever eat, made from the native Nebrodi black pig, in the north east of the island. If you want to eat out in the foodie-friendly Madonie and Nebrodi national parks, choose a local family-owned trattoria, offering traditional countryside fare, where the food is generally outstanding.
You’ll also get to see a more authentic side to Sicily by visiting the tiny medieval villages that punctuate the Sicilian hillsides. Take time to walk through villages with narrow cobbled streets and winding alleyways, past crumbling buildings, castles and ancient churches and gaze out from hilltop vantage points over the magnificent countryside.
