Better still, Gemma is just 150m from the nearest beach and close to the stunning baroque towns of southeast Sicily.
A heated pool (5 x 11m), trampoline, luxury outdoor showers and several lounge, dining and cooking areas ensure that most of your holiday at Gemma will be spent outside. Step out from the kitchen on to a shaded terrace, with dining table, swing chair and separate comfy seating area, overlooking the pool and garden. On the far side of the pool, two pergolas provide shade to two independent patios, one with a dining table for 8, the other with a sofa and outdoor armchair.
Overall, the villa is superbly equipped for outdoor dining. A small garden annex, with sliding French doors, houses a compact kitchen with a magnificent pizza oven, sink, fridge freezer, cupboards, a hob and a small table and chairs. Another area nearby is kitted out with a barbecue and food preparation area.
Interiors are simple and stylish with contemporary furniture. The ground floor comprises a living room with comfortable sofas, a sofa bed and a large screen TV, and a well-equipped galley kitchen with separate dining area framed by large French windows leading to the terrace and garden.
All the bedrooms have hotel-style modern bathrooms. The two double bedrooms on the ground floor both have a bathroom with a shower. On the first floor, one double bedroom has a small private terrace and a bathroom with shower; the other has a small double bed with a bathroom with bath and shower.

The area
Gemma is just 150m from the 6km stretch of golden sands at Santa Maria del Focallo. Be prepared though for some tough decisions as this stretch of Sicilian coastline is home to numerous sandy beaches including Donnalucata, Sampieri, Marina di Modica and no fewer than four beaches at Pozzallo, all Blue Flag recipients.
Adrenaline seekers can get their fix of action and adventure at nearby Pozzallo where surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing are all popular activities.
The villa is superbly placed for visiting several of the most celebrated of south-east Sicily’s towns. Nearby Ispica is often overlooked in favour of its better known neighbours but has several sights, such as the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore and Liberty style Palazzo Belmonte that make it well worth a visit. Ispica is also the starting point for a wonderful countryside walk through the valley of the 13km long Cava d’Ispica gorge, used first as a Neolithic burial site and, in the Middle Ages, as cave dwellings.
