Overview

OverviewThis 4-bedroom villa with pool, situated between Milazzo and Messina in north east Sicily, looks out from its lofty position over spectacular countryside and the dramatic Aeolian islands. There is a good selection of beaches within easy reach of the villa (the closest at 13 min drive).

The villa is surrounded by a garden and paved terraces, with an oval shaped pool and a superb outlook over the surrounding countryside and coastline. Alongside the pool, a pergola-shaded dining area, perfectly placed for the best views over the dramatic landscape, provides a lovely place for al fresco meals.

The villa is set on two floors, with the main living room and kitchen on the ground floor. The living room has a stunning curved floor to ceiling window with 180° views over the pool and, beyond that, the sea. A dining area is slightly separated from the main seating space in the lounge and there is also a table in the kitchen. One of the double bedrooms and two of the bathrooms (one with shower, one with bath) are on the ground floor.

An open staircase leads up from a second small living area (with double sofa bed) to three more bedrooms (two doubles, one single) and a third bathroom (with shower). The first floor terraces – leading from a double bedroom and a small living room – provide exceptional views along the coastline.

Area

San Pier Niceto is a small town with a couple of restaurants, several interesting churches and monuments and a colourful annual ‘Infiorata’ flower festival in May.

There is a good choice of local beaches within easy reach of the villa (the closest, Rugantino, at 13 min drive). A 10km stretch of coastline between Gioiosa Marea and the small seaside town of San Giorgio incorporates beaches, cliffs and rocks, including the fine sandy beach at Capo Calavà and plenty of opportunities for snorkelling. At Brolo, the beaches share the same sparkling clear waters as the nearby Aeolian islands. Close to Tindari, the Laghetti di Marinello, with its ever-shifting tongue of white sand, also offers crystal clear water in a spectacular natural setting.

Heading west, Montalbano Elicona (around 1hr by car), a medieval hilltop village in the Nebrodi mountains, offers magnificent views of the sea, the Aeolian Islands and Mount Etna and has been nominated one of Italy’s most beautiful villages. To the south, the glamorous town of Taormina is around an hour and a quarter’s drive.

Given the proximity to Milazzo, a boat excursion to the Aeolian islands is a popular option and a selection of adventure-style activities such as canyoning and body rafting can be organised at the Alcantara Gorge (around 1hr20m).

Villa Alma is a beautiful property in a secluded location. Had all the required amenities with an especially impressive swimming pool. Very spacious and clean and Elisabetta was a very responsive host. The only small weather related issue we had, which was totally out with her control, and was sorted within 10 minutes. I do feel it's worth emphasising, as the description stated, a car is essential. Thank you Elisabetta and family for the lovely holiday. Wish Sicily website was very easy to navigate and identify a villa that matched our search criteria. Booking was quite straightforward and communication from Wish Sicily was excellent.

An absolute hidden gem. This villa is outstanding. Nestled high in the mountains, the view is breathtaking, especially on a clear day when you can see the Aeolian Islands. The drive up to the villa is not for the faint hearted, but it is worth it. The villa is very spacious and clean with air conditioning throughout. We are a family of 4, with 2 children age 11 and 9, but the villa would easily accommodate 8 people. Our children especially loved the large pool and table tennis. The nearest supermarket is about a 10 minute drive and there is a huge retail park with large Intercoop and Lidl about 20 minutes away on the outskirts of Milazzo. A car is essential and nothing is within walking distance (except a few goats!) but who needs a restaurant terrace when you have the views at Villa Alma?! We spent a lot of time at the villa itself as it is so lovely and relaxing. We did day trips to Milazzo and the beautiful pool of Venus. A highlight for us was a day trip to the Aeolian Islands. We booked with TarNav and went to Lipari, Panarea and Stromboli. All of the islands were beautiful and interesting, but the most spectacular sight was seeing Stromboli erupt by night. It was amazing. Elisabetta, her husband and father were extremely helpful and kind throughout our stay. We would not hesitate to recommend this place to others and hope to return one day ourselves.

We booked this property back in 2019 just before Covid struck and I really thought we would not get to see the villa at the end of the day. We had a lovely warm welcome from Elisabetta who could not do enough for us. She even went and got some flowers for me to give to my wife for our 40th wedding anniversary. On the following Saturday she turned up with some local patisseries from the local shop. A lovely touch that meant such a lot. The location and views are just stunning. A true home from home and so peaceful. Just the noise of birds, cow bells and the odd dog barking in the distance. Getting too and from the property was not too bad. The odd tight corner to negotiate through San Pier Niceto but other than this, once you arrived at the villa you were in your own world and at peace! A total switch off and relaxation. Everything was as we expected in and around the villa. The pool very inviting and grounds that went on and on. Rooms were clean and tidy with a nice big fridge freezer in the kitchin. The kitchin was a little short of things we would normally have at home in the UK like a bread knife, scissors and bigger glasses for drinks but other than this we could not fault things. Sicily has suffered with Covid with lots of closed down beach bars, hotels and restaurants. However, places like Taormina are still thriving and a stunning place to visit just down the coast. Note, always take the auto-bound to get anywhere. It's so cheap and faster than the narrow local roads. Less than 10 euro to cover from Catania airport to the villa. Sometimes just 40km can take an hour to travel on the slower roads which are full of potholes and mad Sicilian drivers! I cannot fault the villa, accomodation and the hospitality from Elisabetta. If you want to go to a get away from it villa, up in the mountains with views that you can only experience by being there, you have to give it a go. Enjoy!

Excelente atención a todas nuestras necesidades y el lugar espectacular.

We stayed with our 3 children for 2 weeks in Villa Alma and it was a relaxing and exotic stay more than memorable ! The welcome and attention paid by the owners are just remarkable (picked us up at the toll station, welcome basket etc). We can't thank them enough for allowing us to discover this beautiful place, the view is breathtaking, we had never known a place like this with a breathtaking view over 360 degrees, of absolute calm, you have to see it to understand. The garden is very pretty with the smell of jasmine at breakfast, nothing better to start a beautiful day. It is also equipped for children with a very nice pool and a playground. Elisabetta and her dad were available at all times during our stay and are very kind, with excellent advice to arrange our stay. The house is located in a very nice village "San Pier Niceto" that often organizes the evening festivities. The beaches are about twenty minutes away and the water is crystal clear, abundant with fish, which was a highlight for the children (snorkelling). Not to mention the starting point for the Aeolian Islands that we discovered especially the island of Stromboli at sunset with the volcano in full explosion, an unforgettable sight. The sanctuary of Tindari and its sand lagoon that can be reached by boat are not far from home and full of magical places like the Capo of Milazzo and its swimming pool of Venus. The best gelato bar 'Coco' where you can watch the sunset is about 15 minutes from the house. The house was well equipped, spacious and very clean, the upstairs terrace from which we could witness an impressive fireworks display. We enjoyed the illuminated view in the evening, the glass of the living room enjoying a good coffee offered by the owners, a superb moment of meditation. The service was perfect and we can't wait to go back! Hard to make short in the comments, it's a magical place, go for it with your eyes closed and open them once you're there! The emotion was so strong as i got out of the car when we arrived to admire this landscape that I had tears in my eyes. In addition, a big "MERCI" to Gio from Wishsicily who had advised us well on the choice of this house in which he had also stayed, he was very professional and responsive.
