Our holiday villa rentals in and near the coastal town of Trapani, on the northwest coast of Sicily, are an excellent base for exploring this corner of the island, whether you are looking for culture and history, or pure chill out time on Sicily’s best beaches. There are several sandy beaches in Trapani, including Lido San Giuliano, and, around 40km from the town, the seemingly endless stretch of sand at San Vito Lo Capo. The town has a good choice of shops and, unsurprisingly, several excellent seafood restaurants along its narrow streets – all of which make life in your holiday home in Sicily that little bit more relaxing!
The Spanish, Baroque and Moorish influences are still evident in the largely pedestrianised old town centre. There are several interesting churches which are well worth a visit, including the baroque San Lorenzo cathedral. North of the harbour, the Chiesa del Purgatorio is the year-round home of the wooden misteri which are showcased in the town’s legendary Easter celebrations. Other points of interest include the Museo di Preistoria e del Mare which is housed in the 17th century Torre di Ligny watchtower.
One of the most enjoyable excursions from Trapani is a cable car trip up to Erice. Perched 750m above sea level, this medieval town is best known for its two castles, pastry shops and spectacular views over the Egadi islands. If you wish to visit the Egadi Islands, Trapani is the main departure point, booking now a villa or holiday homes! The towns of Marsala – famed for its sweet dessert wine – and Mazara del Vallo are also well worth a visit. The archaeological site of Segesta is a must for culture seekers while, to the north of Trapani, the Zingaro Nature Reserve, with its tiny, sandy coves, is delightfully unspoilt.
