A string of bars, restaurants and gelaterie all add to the appeal of western Sicily’s little fishing village of Scopello but it is the picture perfect views, the rugged beauty and the tiny bays of Cala Disa and Cala del Varo on the edge of the neighbouring Zingaro Nature Reserve that are the real attraction. Nearby Castellammare del Golfo has a good selection of seafront bars and pizzerias and a daily fish market. Explore further by hopping on a ferry from Trapani over to the butterfly-shaped island of Favignana or get the best views of the Aegadian islands from the medieval town of Erice.
