Sicily villas close to UNESCO world heritage sites

Boasting an impressive eight UNESCO heritage sites, with the latest added in 2015, Sicily is disproportionately rich in places of cultural and natural interest.

The five cultural UNESCO sites on the island are the ancient Greek archaeological site at Agrigento, the astonishing Roman mosaics at the Villa Romana del Casale, the baroque towns of the Val di Noto in south east Sicily, Syracuse and the Rocky Necropolis of Pantalica and, most recently added, the Arab-Norman architecture of Palermo, Monreale and Cefalù. The two natural sites are those of Mount Etna and the volcanic Aeolian islands. The Opera dei Pupi (Sicilian puppet theatre) was inscribed in 2008 in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists.
