Feast on pistachios from Bronte and some of the best salami you’ll ever eat, made from the native Nebrodi black pig, in the north east of the island. If you want to eat out in the foodie-friendly Madonie and Nebrodi national parks, choose a local family-owned trattoria, offering traditional countryside fare, where the food is generally outstanding.
You’ll also get to see a more authentic side to Sicily by visiting the tiny medieval villages that punctuate the Sicilian hillsides. Take time to walk through villages with narrow cobbled streets and winding alleyways, past crumbling buildings, castles and ancient churches and gaze out from hilltop vantage points over the magnificent countryside.
